This splendid photo of Walt by photographer Edward Steichen is coming, once more, from Mark Sonntag's collection.

And now for the atonishing coincidence! Mark sent me this photo on Sunday evening without mentioning who had taken the shot. Yesterday evening I received the catalog of the Carl Barks exhibition that contained a photo of Walt from the exact same series! Caption of the photo in the catalog: "Walt in 1930 by Edward Steichen - 10' x 8' "

[Sébastien Durand adds: "Walt had commissioned Edward Steichen in the '30s for a series of photos featuring him and his family. One of the most famous pictures in this series is the photo of Walt with Lillian and their chow-chow dog."]

And according to Neal Gabler, an issue of Vanity Fair from October 1933 contains a full page photo from this same series on page 26. Would anyone have access to this issue of Vanity Fair?

He's got that creepy "Kubrick" look, doesn't he?

The Mickey and Minnie papier mache scultures were made by the Old King Cole Comapny of Canton, Ohio.

Old King Cole was Disney licensee from 1935-1942. The company manufactured fantastic Disney-themed window displays.

Longtime Disneyana collector Bernie Shine had a great one in his store on Melrose Avenue in L.A. many, many years ago. The sign measured something like 3 or 4 feet tall by 6 or more feet wide and pictured Mickey, Minnie and Pluto frolicking in the snow with the caption "TOYS."

The 1936 Kay Kamen Christmas promotions catalogue pictured several mechanical Disney displays made by Old King Cole. A 1938 hardcover merchandiser's catalog shows several Snow White items made by the comapny in use by several of America's leading department stores in their Christmas window displays.
