Those two stunning pieces of art had been stolen on March 3, 1991 from the Museum of Cartoon Art in the Village of Rye Brook and were recovered on October 30, 2007 outside Hollywood, Florida.
Pete Merolo bought the pieces from the insurance company that became their legal owner after they were recovered by the police.
The top piece might be by Stan Spohn. I remember seeing a similar piece by him, or maybe it was this same piece.
ReplyDeleteYes, you are correct. Stan Spohn is my great uncle and lives in Carmet CA. I visited with him in Jan. 2007 and we watched the movie together. He informed me that this scene was one of his more famous works. He worked for Disney on four major cartoon movies. He recently celebrated his 93rd birthday.
